Voting and Virginity

As I’m sure you know by now, the Obama campaign recently released an ad in which HBO actress Lena Dunham compares her first time vote for Obama to losing her virginity…classy right? In the ad Dunham says:

“Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy…A guy who cares about whether you get health insurance, and specifically whether you get birth control.”

“My first time voting was amazing. It was this line in the sand. Before I was a girl. Now I was a woman. I went to the polling station and pulled back the curtain. I voted for Barack Obama.”

If I was American, I’d be embarrassed. Your commander and chief, the leader of the free world, endorsing an ad that compares voting to sexual intercourse. If you haven’t yet seen the ad, here it is! You may want to take some nausea medicine first.

The following two videos are parodies of the above.

  1. Fortunately, in America we have an opportunity to remove the embarrassment in four days. This is also the President who wants to require Catholic organizations to provide birth control. It will be interesting to see if Catholics support President Obama like they did in 2008. Thanks for blogging on this.

  2. Well, I AM an American, and I am TOTALLY EMBARRASSED! What’s worse is the thought that people may be foolish enough to return this inept and puerile leader for another term. God Save America!

    1. Im not American, Im English, but if I were American I would have stood by you guys, my Catholic brothers and sisters. Dont be embarrassed Father. All over the world we know that alot of Americans dont share this opinion of Obama supporters. Your country is more or less divided by half in opinion and we all know there are alot of good guys in your fabulous country. You’ve just got to stick together and know that God is closer to you all than ever before.

  3. I can’t believe that, that is an awful ad. That’s an open example of the spiritual battle if ever I’ve seen one. I wonder how long before they try it over here for our federal elections in Australia.

  4. I completely agree with your views on this and think the content is insulting towards women. But just to clarify in case readers are confused, the ad was not endorsed by the Obama campaign itself. Creator of the HBO tv show ‘Girls’, Lena Dunham, made the ad.

      1. Exactly. I cant really speak for Mr Obama but I can only imagibe he thought this sad video was brilliant. What a silly girl. When or if Lena Dunham has a daughter of her own one day I think she’ll feel slightly different about men who want to push so-called birth control onto girls as a condition for taking their virginity.

    1. I know how you feel April. All you amaizing true Americans who believe in freedom given to us by God and not by any government have just got to stick together and remember He is always with you.

  5. “Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy…A guy who cares about whether you get health insurance, and specifically whether you get birth control.” Wow this hypothetical bloke sounds like quite the gentleman! He doesnt want to take you out to dinner or meet your parents or, Heaven forbid, marry you. No, he just wants to make sure he wont get you pregnant as a result of having his way with you, and then forget about you and what he promised to you once he’s taken what he wants from you.

Very brave post Matt. Kepp it up, you star.

  6. Long overdue is a comment
We do not value what we should.

The gift of our sexuality should not be equated with voting for whomever and I personally did not think it could get worse than Clinton, but, it has.
